Volunteer Stories
One by one, day by day, person by person, Volunteers of America – Western Nebraska works to make our community better. We could not accomplish this goal without the help of our many volunteers. These are the stories of their experiences as our volunteers, why they have chosen to reach out and exemplify the Volunteers of America ideal that there are no limits to caring.
Doris Richardson
Doris Richardson serves as a foster grandparent for the preschool in Lewellen. She believes that this service is helpful to others as well as helpful to herself. She says that she feels lucky to be able to do something that is so rewarding.
Doris had previously worked with Volunteers of America – Western Nebraska and knew that she liked being a part of the organization. She had the opportunity to work within the Foster Grandparent Program which places “foster grandparents” in a variety of youth facilities to serve as role models, mentors, and friends for young students. One of the goals of this program is to provide comfort and support to set a child on a path towards a successful future.
Although, Miss Doris believes that teaching can be a very difficult job, she likes working with the children. She is impressed with how polite and well mannered these young students are becoming and is happy to be a part of this experience.
Thank you Doris!
